It’s that time again! Saturday November 7, 2009 brings us to yet another First Saturday celebration in downtown Frederick, MD. The Dunsmore family show features the numerous works by this multi talented and highly artistic family. Works on exhibit range from the unique and unusual ceramic works and pottery by mother Jane, the stunning visual acuity of straightforward and derivative photographs by father Don, the fantastic and highly imaginative jewelry and quilt work by daughter A. Cleo, and last, but by no means least, the wonderful quilts, whimsical animal interpretations, and clay works by daughter Kit. All of the works exhibited by the Dunsmore clan show a great reverence for, sensitivity to, and keen interpretation of the natural world surrounding us which is so often overlooked in our hurried, harried day to day world. This exhibit will certainly be one of the highlights of the November First Saturday events! The opening reception will take place in the Kline Gallery of the Delaplaine on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 3 - 5 P.M. and the exhibit will be on display during Delaplaine business hours from October 31 to November 29, 2009. Take some time to stop by and meet the artists while enjoying this and the other exhibits on display.

Another exhibit of note takes place in the gallery at the
Frederick Cellars located at 221 N. East Street in Frederick, MD. An easy walk from the Delaplaine Visual Arts & Education Center Frederick Cellars features events in their art gallery, a tasting room featuring their own wines, and a bistro for light dining. The November exhibit, titled Battlefield Reflections, features work created during a recent en plein air session at Gettysburg, PA by artists Deborah Richardson, Rebecca Jackson, Peter Plant, and Glen Souders. The artist reception and exhibit opening will be held from 5-9 P.M. during the Gallery Walk portion of the upcoming First Saturday events.

While you are walking around the Market Street area of downtown Frederick enjoying our monthly activities be sure to take time to stop by the
Frederick Arts Council’s Cultural Arts Center gallery at 15 N. Market Street. On exhibit throughout November will be decorated wreaths competing for your eye as the season leads into the 9 day Festival of the Greens preceding Frederick’s annual Christmas festivities. The opening reception at the Cultural Arts Center will also take place from 5-9 P.M. on Saturday, November 7, 2009.

We have recently received the 35mm slides we sent to ScanCafe as a test of their service. As promised
here we are writing up a review of their services along with our personal opinions of their value to us and to the average person with a shoebox full of old and usually quite disorganized photographs and slides. We hope to post that entry in the next day or two so check back soon.

That’s all for right now but we will be updating information on the upcoming First Saturday events over the next few days.
